Tasmania Invitation Round 2023 to 2024
Based on the latest Tasmania invitation round, here’s an overview of the number of nomination places used and remaining for the current migration program year 2023 to 2024.

To be eligible for Tasmania nomination, you must first meet the minimum requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs. You must:
- Be under 45 years old
- Have nominated an occupation on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations
- Achieve a valid and positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation
- Achieve 65 points or higher in the skilled migration points test
- Achieve ‘Competent” English skills
- Comply with Tasmanian Government nomination requirements below
190 Visa Tasmania Nomination Requirements
To apply for 190 visa nominations, you can take one of the four visa nomination pathways available.
Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Be living and working in Tasmania, and intend to stay there (including your dependants)
- Either:
- TOSOL Option: Have an occupation in the Tasmanian Onshore Skilled Employment Occupation List (TOSOL)
- Long-term employment option: Have been working for at least 15 months in a role closely related to your skills
- Have worked in Tasmania for the last 6 months
- Be currently employed for at least 20 hours a week in those 6 months, in a role closely related to your nominated occupation
- Have signed a contract of at least 12 months, with at least 3 months remaining at the time you apply for nomination
- Under an employer that has been actively operating in Tasmania for the past 12 months
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Skilled Employment pathway

Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Have been living in Tasmania for at least 3 years (with no more than half of your total time in Australia spent in another state/territory)
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Established Resident pathway
- Meet one of the following criteria:

Tasmanian Skilled Graduate Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Have finished your CRICOS-registered course that lasts for at least 92 weeks
- Have completed your course full-time and on-site from a recognised tertiary institution in Tasmania
- Have a completed course that meets one of the following criteria:
- Be AQF 5 (Diploma) or higher
- At least a Certificate III related to an ANZSCO Major Group 3 or Group 4 occupation
- Have lived in Tasmania for at least 2 full years from starting your course to completion
- Be currently in Tasmania and intend to stay there
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Skilled Graduate pathway
Interstate graduates who are PhD candidates may be qualified for nomination, given they’ve lived in Tasmania and finished at least 2 years of their PhD discipline in Tasmania.
Overseas Applicant (Health Sector Job Offer) Pathway
To be eligible for this pathway, you must:
Basic Eligibility
- Possess positive skills assessment for a health or allied health occupation within the eligible ANZSCO groups (see next section)
- Have been offered a job by a Tasmania-based employer that has operated for at least the past 12 months:
- in a role that’s closely related to your nominated occupation
- in a position that genuinely needs to be filled on an ongoing basis
- with wages and conditions that are no less favourable than those that would apply to an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- with a salary that’s at least equivalent to the local market salary rate
- You (and any dependant) must not have lived interstate within the last 12 month

491 Visa Tasmania Nomination Requirements
The Tasmania 491 visa has 6 nomination pathways
Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway
For workers in a role classified as ANZSCO Skill Level 1-3
You must:
- Have been working in Tasmania (minimum of 20 hours per week) for the last six months
- If your skills assessment and work experience align with an occupation on the TOSOL, you’ll be eligible for nomination after three months of employment.
- If your employment is not related to your skills assessment, you must have relevant qualifications or experience consistent with the ANZSCO definition for that role.
- Be in a position that’s genuinely needed on an ongoing business within the business (including having a minimum 12-month contract with at least three months remaining at the time of applying for nomination)
- For subcontractors: Have a related skills assessment and at least 12 months of business activity in Tasmania
- Be currently living in Tasmania and intend to stay there (including your dependants)
For workers in a role classified as ANZSCO Skill Level 4-5
You must:
- Have been working in Tasmania (minimum of 20 hours per week) for the last 12 months
- Be employed in a position that’s ongoing and extends for at least 6 months from the application date. This role must:
- Be difficult to recruit for, with formal endorsement from your employer detailing the need for the position and local recruitment efforts to address this
- Have career advancement opportunities, endorsed in writing by your employer
- Have been working for a Tasmania-based employer actively operating for the last 12 months
- with wages and conditions that are no less favourable than those that would apply to an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- with a salary that’s at least equivalent to the local market salary rate
- in a position that’s genuinely needed on an ongoing business within the business (including having a minimum 12-month contract with at least three months remaining at the time of applying for nomination)
- Be currently living in Tasmania and intend to stay there (including your dependants)
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for this pathway
Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Have been living in Tasmania for at least 2 years (with no more than half of your total time in Australia spent in another state/territory)
- Be currently employed (at least 20 hours a week) in Tasmania in a role that’s either:
- equivalent to ANZSCO Skill Levels 1-3, with at least 6 months of experience in the last 12 months
- equivalent to ANZSCO Skill Levels 4-5, with at least 12 months of experience in the last 18 months
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Established Resident pathway
Tasmanian Business Operator Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Have established and operated a business (solely owned or co-owned with spouse) in Tasmania for at least 12 months
- If you own a subcontracting business, you’re not eligible for this pathway
- If you own a massage therapy business, you must have a related skills assessment and a verifiable health fund provider number
- Have a personal taxable income of at least 85% of the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (currently AUD 59,500)
- Complete key units on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s online learning centre to show your understanding of fair employee treatment.
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Established Resident pathway
Tasmanian Skilled Graduate Pathway
To be eligible, you must:
- Have finished your CRICOS-registered course that spans for at least 40 weeks and that is either:
- an AQF 5 (Diploma) or higher
- at least a Certificate III related to an ANZSCO Major Group 3 or Group 4 occupation
- Have completed your course full-time and on-site from a recognised tertiary institution in Tasmania
- Have lived in Tasmania for at least 1 full year from starting your course until completion
- Be currently in Tasmania and intend to stay there
- Achieve at least one of the Priority Attributes for the Skilled Graduate pathway
Overseas Applicant (Job Offer) Pathway
To be eligible for this pathway, you must:
- Have been offered a job by a Tasmania-based employer that has operated for at least the past 12 months:
- in a role that’s closely directly related to your nominated occupation and skills assessment
- in a position that genuinely needs to be filled on an ongoing basis
- with wages and conditions that are no less favourable than those that would apply to an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- with a salary that’s at least equivalent to the local market salary rate
- You (and any dependant) must not have lived interstate within the last 12 months
Note: Massage therapist roles must be located in a hospital, aged or disability care setting or an allied healthcare setting (e.g. physiotherapy clinic).
Overseas Applicant (OSOP) – Invitation Only Pathway
IMPORTANT: Currently, this 491 visa pathway is closed for applications. You should explore other pathways such as the 491 Overseas Job Offer Pathway or 190 Health Sector Job Offer Pathway.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be first invited via SkillSelect by Migration Tasmania to submit an ROI on the Migration Tasmania Gateway
- Have a nominated occupation listed in the Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles
- If invited, provide proof that you’ve done research into the Tasmanian job market. This must include:
- evidence of correspondence with HR staff, recruitment officers or employers via email or LinkedIn, or with professional groups or associations in Tasmania
- at least two advertised positions or vacancies in your nominated occupation that are not older than 6 weeks before you apply for nomination
- employment statement explaining how your skills and experience align with the requirements for each job vacancy
- Have sufficient funds to support your migration and settlement in Tasmania for at least 6 months while you seek employment
- Have not lived interstate within the last 12 months (including your dependants)
